Burning fat by Circuit Training

Mar 18th, 2010 | By Kat Wendersen | Category: Fitness Training

The importance of circuit training for burning excess body fat cannot be denied.  Circuit training is a type of training where people perform a series of different exercises that, in total, constitute a complete workout of a particular aspect of fitness.  Circuit training can focus on endurance training, building a particular set of muscles, or overall fat burning.

When fat burning is the goal, circuit training with resistance bands is the ideal workout.  Resistance training is a form of strength training.  Workouts can use various forms of exercise equipment that make the body work against a resistant object, and resistance band workouts are among the most popular types of resistance training equipment.  Other forms of training can involve exercise machines and swimming machines.

Studies have looked at resistance band workouts to evaluate their efficacy for fat burning and found that, compared to other types of popular exercises such as aerobic exercise and weightlifting, resistance exercise is more beneficial for overall fat loss.  Incorporating resistance band workouts into an aerobic workout routine resulted in dramatically more fat burned for subjects in the studies than aerobic exercise alone.

So, what is the right way to include resistance training in your circuit training to burn fat?  There are numerous tools that can e used to design the right workout plan.  Many sites on the internet can provide workout routines for resistance training.  These routines are free and there are a variety to choose from, however, a drawback is that they are not tailored to your personal needs and exercise goals.

An alternative is to purchase a kit containing the resistance equipment and routine.  Advantages of this method are that it is relatively inexpensive and workouts can be done in your home or anywhere you go.  Additionally, you will have the proper equipment and instructions on how to best use it.  A disadvantage is that the routine is still not likely to be tailored to your needs.

The ideal situation is to consult a personal trainer to obtain custom workouts for resistance bands that are tailored to your individual needs and fat burning goals.  Trainers will teach you how to properly use the equipment, how to measure your milestones and work toward your goals.  Personal trainers can also keep you motivated.  Hiring a personal trainer is not cheap, however, the money is often well spent and you will learn lessons that you can use your whole life.
